ROI Tax Planning: How Value Pricing Grew a CPA Practice
Why are so many CPAs afraid of value pricing? One reason is the confusion between value-based fees and contingent fees. In this conversation on Accounting High, I explain why I developed and trademarked my ROI Method of Tax Planning. For example, if I estimate that specific tax strategies could save a client $40,000 annually, and my advisory fee is $15,000, I can show them the potential net return on their investment. That's the kind of conversation I wanted accountants to feel more confident having. I also share how my own practice evolved from charging $150 for a Form 1040 in 2010 to averaging $15,000 annually per client, with $30,000 onboarding fees, by 2022. Value pricing still needs to comply with professional standards, but it can fundamentally change how accountants communicate the value of tax advisory services.
