For expecting parents out there, here are the five moves I’d make to prepare for having a baby. 1. Have an honest conversation about life after birth. Is someone staying home, what’s the childcare plan, etc. Make sure you’re on the same page beforehand 2. Save cash, preferably through an HSA/FSA. You’re going to need it so have your max out of pocket ready to go 3. Understand your total medical care cost. If you go non-traditional, there may be extra costs/out of network providers upending your plan. Just make sure you know beforehand 4. Stretch out purchases. You don’t need to buy everything today. You have a lot more time than you think. Go minimal to start, you can always get more stuff if/when needed 5. If you have a baby shower where people gift clothes, assign different ages to different groups. That way you get clothes from newborn to a year plus.
