The 2008 financial crisis was not a housing story. The collapse itself was a bank run — one no camera could film, because the queue formed inside the money markets, not outside a bank. And the whole disaster had a dress rehearsal, ten years earlier, that Washington chose to forget. The road to 2008 runs through a hedge fund's trading floor, a hearing room in Washington, a boarded-up block in Cleveland, and a front door in Akron, Ohio. In this video, we trace how Long-Term Capital Management nearly sank Wall Street in 1998 — and how its rescue taught exactly the wrong lesson. How Brooksley Born warned about unregulated derivatives and was silenced by the men who ran the world's money. How the rating agencies stamped 42,625 mortgage securities triple-A. How the Lehman Brothers collapse set off an invisible run on repo and money market funds. How Canada — same continent, same storm — had zero bank failures and zero bailouts. And how Alan Greenspan confessed, under oath, that he had found a flaw. They weren't villains. They were certain. The ledger never lies. People do. #2008FinancialCrisis #FinancialCrisis #GreatRecession #EconomicHistory #History #HistoryDocumentary #FinancialHistory #WallStreet #LehmanBrothers #BankRun #HousingCrisis #Subprime #Greenspan #BrooksleyBorn #LTCM #Derivatives #MoneyMarket #HiddenHistory #Economics #StockMarketCrash
