5 Ways to Beat Inflation.

1980s1984youtube

"The strategies that protect against inflation are well-established. First: own assets, not cash. Property, equities, and commodities have historically kept pace with or outpaced inflation over long periods. The FTSE 100 has returned an average of 7.5 percent per year since 1984, well above average UK inflation. Second: invest in inflation-protected government bonds — in the UK, these are called index-linked gilts. Their returns are legally tied to inflation, so your real value is preserved. Third: consider commodities like gold, which has historically maintained its purchasing power across centuries. Fourth: invest in yourself. Your earning capacity is the most inflation-resistant asset you own. Skills that increase your income are the ultimate hedge. Fifth: if you have debt at fixed rates in an inflationary environment, you are actually benefiting — your real debt burden is declining as money loses value."
