the 3 accounts you need to retire early

you need 3 money accounts to retire early, but most people only have 1!! I was maxing out my IRA and 401k and HSA and then learned I needed another account to retire early.. here are the 3: account 1️⃣: the 401k or Roth IRA or whatever tax-advantaged retirement account. these are generally locked until 55 or 59.5. this is the later money. account 2️⃣: a regular brokerage account (!!) no age limit, no income limit, no contribution limit, no penalty, sell whenever. this is what bridges the gap between the day you stop working and the day you can touch your retirement accounts. this is key if you want to retire early account 3️⃣: cash. a high yield savings account holding a few months to a couple years of expenses. so when the market dips early in retirement, you're not forced to sell at the worst possible time. tldr; brokerage gets you to 59.5. retirement accounts carry you after & cash keeps you steady in between.
