Headlines love to claim Warren Buffett is "predicting a crash." The reality is more interesting — and a lot less scary. Berkshire Hathaway ended early 2026 holding a record ~$397 billion in cash and Treasury bills — more than a third of the entire company's value, and more than every sovereign wealth fund on Earth combined. For over three years it was a net seller of stocks, even cutting its huge Apple stake by around half. So the internet did what it does: "He knows something. Sell everything." But that misses what Buffett has said for years — he doesn't time markets, and Berkshire will "forever" keep most of its money in stocks. The cash pile isn't a prediction. It's a simpler problem: at today's high prices, he can't find enough worth buying at a size that moves the needle. When the greatest bargain-hunter alive can't find a bargain, that's not a forecast — it's a comment on how expensive things have gotten. And that cash isn't idle — parked in Treasuries, it earns Berkshire roughly $12 billion a year while it waits. To be crystal clear: this is not a prediction that markets will fall, and it is not a suggestion to buy, sell, or hold anything. It's simply what one investor's public filings show, and what he's said about why. (Buffett stepped down as CEO in early 2026 and remains chairman; the cash position is Berkshire's, built under his tenure.) Full breakdown on the channel. Educational content only.
