Lang Xianping — Rare Footage & Clips

The Unapologetic Voice of Lang Xianping: A Force to be Reckoned with in China's Business Landscape

Lang Xianping is a name that evokes strong emotions and reactions in the business world, particularly in China. As an economist, commentator, author, and TV host, he has built a reputation for being unapologetically critical of corporate giants, leaving no stone unturned in his pursuit of accountability. With a career spanning over two decades, Lang's influence extends far beyond the confines of the business community, making him a significant figure in China's economic landscape.

One of the most striking aspects of Lang's persona is his willingness to "scold" even the most powerful and influential companies in China. From D'Long to Haier, TCL to Greencool, Lang has taken on some of the country's biggest names, leaving them reeling from the impact of his sharp tongue and unflinching critique. This approach may have earned him a share of enemies, but it has also made him a hero to many who see him as a champion of transparency and accountability.

Lang's rise to fame began in 2002, a year that marked the beginning of his crusade against corporate malfeasance. Through his television shows and writings, he has consistently pushed for greater scrutiny of business practices, often targeting companies with deep pockets and influential connections. His methods may be unorthodox, but his impact is undeniable.

A clip from Lang's 2010 interview on our archive, "The Truth About China's Economy," offers a glimpse into his uncompromising approach. In this candid conversation, Lang shares his thoughts on the country's economic challenges, including corruption and crony capitalism. His words are laced with a sense of urgency, as he implores Chinese leaders to take bold action against these entrenched problems.

Lang's significance extends beyond China's borders, too. As an economist, his opinions carry weight in international circles, particularly among those interested in the intricacies of China's economic model. His work has been translated into multiple languages, making him a sought-after commentator on global business networks.

While Lang's influence is undeniable, it's worth noting that his methods have not been without controversy. Some have criticized him for being overly confrontational and divisive, while others have accused him of using his platform to settle personal scores. However, these criticisms do little to diminish the impact he has had on China's business landscape.

In many ways, Lang Xianping represents a unique blend of traditional Chinese values – such as respect for authority and hierarchy – with modern sensibilities about transparency and accountability. His willingness to challenge the status quo and confront powerful interests is a testament to his commitment to these ideals.
