About This Footage

This clip page is a treasure trove of insight into the world of high finance in 2008, as captured by a 22:53 minute long video recording of the Foreign Policy Association's Corporate Dinner honoring Timothy Geithner, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and soon-to-be U.S. Secretary of the Treasury under President-elect Barack Obama.

The footage is notable for several reasons. Firstly, it provides a unique glimpse into the inner workings of the financial establishment in the midst of one of the most tumultuous periods in recent history - the 2008 global financial crisis. The event takes place on December 3, 2008, just days before the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the subsequent government-led bailouts.

The expert featured in this clip is none other than Timothy Geithner himself, who would go on to play a pivotal role in shaping the U.S. government's response to the crisis as Secretary of the Treasury. As President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Geithner was already a key figure in the nation's monetary policy-making apparatus.

The clip page also provides a fascinating look at the network of high-powered individuals who attended this exclusive dinner event. The list of co-chairs and speakers reads like a Who's Who of Wall Street and finance: E. Gerald Corrigan, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs; Gonzalo de Las Heras, Director General of Banco Santander; Edward D. Herlihy, Partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, among others.

The expert's bio on the clip page provides valuable context for understanding Geithner's background and experience. A career spanning over two decades in public service, including stints at the Treasury Department under three different Secretaries, as well as a stint at the International Monetary Fund, demonstrate his deep expertise in international finance and monetary policy.

This footage is particularly interesting because it captures Geithner's thoughts on the state of global finance just before the crisis reached its peak. While we can only speculate on what he might have said during this event, the clip page provides a unique historical record that offers insights into the thinking and decision-making processes of those at the helm of the world's financial systems.

For anyone interested in understanding the inner workings of high finance, the global economy, or simply the events leading up to one of the most significant economic crises of our time, this clip page is an absolute must-watch.
